The response that you received to your letter is so disappointing, especially as the tone of your letter was thoughtful and even friendly. Even if their agenda is set for their upcoming meeting, fine, but at the least she could have acknowledged your concerns and maybe offered to talk with you at some point.

I am finishing my validation with the Paris Institute. It has been quite a ride, but I don’t agree with throwing the proverbial baby away with the bath water. I had been in a non IPA group prior and - at least for me- the rigor of my training in the Société Psychanalytique de Paris has taken me a long way, clinically. I am not a great autodidact, I need a structure. That being said the structure here in France is much more flexible than in American institutions from what I’ve understood. And yes there have been conferences and seminars on LGBTQ themes here, transgender issues etc etc… are we more open minded?!

I think it makes a very big difference that in France you do not complete a training analysis during your training, but prior to it--in my opinion that is ethically essential. In the US and elsewhere, the co-occurrence of the training analysis with the other parts of the training is a major driver of unethical conduct and profit motives!

Mais quand-même, cet incident (ci-dessous) était récent . . .

This… there is no such thing in France as a « training analysis »

I’ll take a look at the video

I am Not A Lacanian. I have an allergy after doing my psych degree here with Lacanians. No École Freudienne. I took what was somewhat useful (how to listen to psychotic subjects) and the rest is infused with Jacques’ unanalysed narcissism. Just saying.

Dear Carter,

Thank you for your offer and for sharing your perspective. At this point our program is all set.

Best,

Jane

The rudeness, the arrogance, the hard border. The disavowal of an analytic ethic.

Anyways, moving on: looking forward to the counter talk. Thanks.

Ugh, these circumstances speak volumes! A pitch-perfect response indeed! While at the moment I'm not taking a maximalist response as you and others are, I so appreciate that you do, and support it. The attempted erasure of difference that continues to happen at the institutional level is a precise problem that we must fight by all means necessary. Thanks for your work which certainly does not go unnoticed Carter!
